Top 5 Day Trips to do from Tirana, Albania

1. Cable car trip up Mount Dajti

Take a trip on the Datji Express cable car up to the top of the Datji mountain where you will find stunning views down to Tirana, as well as crazy golf, horse riding and more!

The Dajti Express cable car is the longest such system in the Balkans, built in 2005. It takes a little over 15 minutes to reach the end of the ride, by which time you will have been treated with stunning views of the Albania Capital, Tirana. Once there, explore walking trails, go for a drink, lunch or play some crazy golf! There is also a children’s playground  and a rollerblading rink!

Please note the cable car is closed each Tuesday.

To get to the Dajti express cable car, you need Porcelan bus L11 from around the back of the Cultural Museum, near the clock tower at Skanderbeg square. The bus runs approx every 15 mins. You can also take a taxi ride from Tirana.

If you are feeling more adventurous, you can also book a paragliding experience off the mountain and really take in that amazing view!

The Restaurant Ballkoni Dajtit, if you choose to have lunch while on your trip is well worth visiting. At a little over 1000 metres above sea level, it offers panoramic views and some great picture opportunities to cherish your holiday memories, or maybe that extra special romantic occasion!

If you don’t fancy getting the bus or taxi, the easiest option is to book an escorted trip from Tirana city centre to the cable car here:

2. Day Trip to Berat

Berat city is known as the city of a thousand windows. Explore this Unesco Historical site and visit Berat castle, take time out for lunch. Berat is influenced historically by the llyrian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods and the history will captivate you.

Cobbled streets await to be explored as well as local cuisine and products, not forgetting the wonderful locals who wait to welcome you to their city. The castle itself, dates back to the 4th century though has been rebuilt many times and is not to be missed. 20 Albanian Orthodox churches are built inside Berat Castle! Put this one on your to do list

3. Kruja Castle and the Old Bazaar

Krujë

Krujë is one of my favourite places to visit in Albania if you are seeking stunning scenery and calm! Krujë is about 20km north of Tirana.

The cobbled streets and old Bazaar where you can buy local Albanian souvenirs are a delight to spend time in. There is an air of tranquillity here (despite the traffic navigating the streets). Take some time for lunch in one of the many hotels and restaurants.
